I have just entered week 28 of the pregnancy. During this week, the baby's brain is developing and expanding. The baby may start to open its eyes, as well as take 20-30 minute naps. And the baby is about 2 pounds and 10 inches long.
Garrett and I attended our week 28 doctor's appointment this morning. I must say it was my least favorite visit out of them all. I felt like I got poked and prodded all over. I had to under the Glucose Test as well as receive an injection of Rhogam. I am glad to have this visit over with.
The Glucose test normally occurs in week 28 and is used to test for gestational diabetes. You are asked to drink Glucola, a special sugar enhanced drink. Then an hour later have your blood drawn to test for the level of glucose. I was pretty worried about the Glucola drink going off of what others had told me, but must say it wasn't as bad as I expected. I am definately glad I went for the lemon lime flavor. It was like drinking very flat seven up.
The Rhogam injection is also given during week 28 to those women having a negative Rh factor. Which lucky me I am. Since Garrett has a positive Rh factor, the baby could be Rh positive. Though our blood stays separate, if the baby's blood were to enter my system, my body would create antibodies against the Rh factor, treating the baby like an intruder in my body. The Rhogam injection helps by suppressing my body's ability to react to the Rh positive red cells.
Another baby activity occurring this week worthy of mentioning is our labor and delivery class. Garrett and I decided to get it done in one weekend versus multiple. So we will be spending this upcoming weekend in class. I am dreading the time commitment, but look forward to the learning.
